PAIRE DE CANDÉLABRES

with two lights in gilt bronze and white marble decorated with young dancing bacchants holding branches of acanthus leaves forming light arms. Cylindrical base in white marble decorated with garlands of leaves. Late 19th century, Louis XVI style, after Claude Michel dit Clodion and Louis-Félix de la Rue H : 34 cm This model of candelabra was very successful in the 18th and 19th centuries, and was, at that time, particularly sought after by English amateurs. It was declined in various variants. If the author has not been identified, parallels with the works of Claude Michel dit Clodion (1738-1814) and Louis Félix de La Rue (1731-1777) have often been advanced. Bibliography: H. Ottomeyer P.
