IGNACIO GARDELLA by AZUCENA.

IGNACIO GARDELLA for AZUCENA. Ceiling lamp, ca. 1958. Chrome, metal and Murano glass. Measurements: 95 x 32 cm. Suspension lamp whose lampshade is made of white Murano blown glass, with a fluid and shiny finish. It has a globular body and a long neck, as if it were a vase. The shade is supported by a tripod structure in chromed metal, which in turn hangs from a rod that connects the lamp to the ceiling. Ignacio Gardella is one of the most important figures in 20th century Italian architecture. He founded the Azucena Agency with Luigi CAccia Dominioni, the first to inaugurate the Italian production of high quality design. A graduate in engineering from the Polytechnic University of Milan (while he graduated in architecture from the IUAV in 1949), in his university years he came into contact with other young protagonists of the Milanese scene with whom he participated in the creation of the Italian Modern Movement. During the 1960s and 1970s, Gardella devoted himself to an intense professional activity, the importance of which is demonstrated by his presence in international publications. Among his most significant projects was the Faculty of Architecture in Genoa (1975-1989), which brought him to the forefront of architectural debate. Founded in 1947 by Luigi Caccia Dominioni, Ignazio Gardella and Corrado Corradi Dell'Acqua, the Italian brand Azucena has always distinguished itself for its collections that combine formal elegance, discreet luxury, pure and clear aesthetics and supreme craftsmanship.
