EUGENI GENTILI TEDESCHI (Turin, 1916-Milan, 2005) for KARTELL. Ceiling lamp, 1960-1969. Metal and plexiglass. Measurements: 100 x 60 cm. Ceiling lamp of Italian design characterised by the purity of its lines, of marked geometric regularity. In the structure there is a dialogue between the half sphere of the lampshade in white and the metallic cylinder of the suspension piece. Eugeni Gentili Tedeschi was a famous Italian architect and designer. He influenced many of today's designers and architects in Italy and abroad through his numerous books and popular lectures given when he was a professor of design at the Politecnico di Milano. His architectural legacy in the form of buildings can be seen today in Milan and elsewhere in Italy, including the Heichal u-Mordechai Synagogue, Porta Garibaldi Station, the Italopharmaco complex and the building that houses the LASA laboratories in Milan. Gentili's professional training took place during the period when modern architecture and rationalism were extremely influential in Italy, strongly promoted by the design magazine Casabella and the writings of the magazine's editor Giuseppe Pagano and editor-critic-designer Edoardo Persico. In 1946 he opened Studio Eugenio Gentili Tedeschi in Milan. In 1948 he was asked to join the MSA (Movimento di Studi per l'Architettura). He also belonged to the Associazione per l'architettura organica (APAO). He participated in the Milan Triennale in 1947, 1951 and 1954, and became a member of its board of directors, where he remained active for many years. Throughout his career he received numerous awards, including the IN-ARCH Prize (Istituo Nazionale di Architecture), 1963.
