Description

Pair of chairs, Louis XV Style; second half of the 19th century.

Pair of chairs, Louis XV style; second half of the nineteenth century. Carved and gilded wood. Aubusson upholstery. Slightly bumped in the gilding. Measurements: 90 x 51 x 49 cm (x2). Pair of armchairs that are supported, each one of them, on four legs with a warped profile. All of them have a moulded decoration. Finally, the seat, which follows the same aesthetic models, also combining vegetal ornamentation, has a perimeter that combines straight lines with slight curvatures. The backrest, with a square shape rounded at the corners, only has ornamentation in the upper central area, where there is a plant motif, as in the shoulder area. In this case it is worth noting the upholstery of both pieces, which follows the aesthetic patterns of the Aubusson style, in ochre and pink tones with floral decoration combined with scrolls and vegetal elements, as well as figurative scenes in this case. The Louis XV style corresponds to the courtly French Rococo, the main style during this century. However, the usual movement of these examples is softened as an influence of works already in the Neoclassical style of the 19th century.
