This type of small chiffonière table featuring quartefoil marquetry on a trellis was very popular around 1775. Although our pair is stamped by André-Louis Gilbert, Master in 1774, he is not the sole creator of this model. Indeed, comparable models were executed by other cabinetmakers such as Godefroy Dester (Fig. 1: Christie's Paris sale, November 8, 2013, lot 202) or Jacques Laurent Cosson (Fig. 2: Sotheby's Monaco sale, March 4, 1989, lot 233). This type of small chiffonière table, featuring quartefoil marquetry in a trellis, was very popular around 1775. Although our pair is stamped by André-Louis Gilbert, Master in 1774, the authorship of this model is not exclusive to him. Indeed, comparable models were executed by other cabinetmakers such as Godefroy Dester (Fig. 1: Christie's Paris sale, November 8, 2013, lot 202) or Jacques Laurent Cosson (Fig. 2: Sotheby's Monaco sale, March 4, 1989, lot 233).
