Adams B 1058. - One of the two Latin Bible editions by de Tournes, in octavo format. With the beautiful wood engravings first made in 1553 for the "Quadrains historiques de la Bible" by Claude Paradin, one of the highlights of French book illustration from the period. Book illustration from the time of Mannerism. - Initially some of the woodcuts colorized. - Some waterstained, p. 1129 to end with strong mousing lower right. (With approx. 190 woodcuts in the text. Contemporary leather over wood (damaged, severely worn). Few woodcuts in the beginning colored. Partly somewhat waterstained, p. 1129 until the end with damage done by mice (text loss), title with erased ownership note.
