Present are the maps of Corsica (Cervoni 7, one of the earliest maps of Corsica), Sicily, and the island groups around Elba; in the Gulf of Naples u. in the Adriatic. The bird's eye view of Venice and the Sardinia map are missing. - In the second part the num. Some stains, some marginal tears at the beginning and end, N.a.T. bookplate.

"Il Duca di Fiorenza", Poggio July 20, 1561, to Giovanni Caccini "Proveditore de Fossi" in Pisa; half-page folio, addressed with seal of arms under paper (slight foxing); in Italian. He approves the order given by Caccini for the most precise possible state of the population ("per la descrittione universale de populi, per haverla piu vera, che si possa, che tutto sta bene"). Then he mentions the payment to be made by him and his wife the Duchess for the estimator's fees ("che habbiamo a pagare noi et la Duchessa nostra Consorte per conto dell'estimo si chiarisca tutto di quel' che sono"), first committing Caccini to clean up everything...

In 4° (205 x 150 mm);[8], 58, [2] pages.Xylographic vignette on title page, copper-engraved antiporta with portrait of Innocent XI Odescalchi, 22 copper-engraved plates outside text,of which several are folded, attributed to Agostino Martinelli, Albert Gnoli, and Michel Angelo Marinari (woodworm holes at inner margin of first fascicle, occasional browning.) Contemporary vellum binding (lacks on spine). Boards in fresh condition from this first edition. The projectdidescription of bridges starts from the risk of collapse of the bridge over the Nera River near Narni. In fact, the author takes his cue from it to elaborate on the descriptions of the courses of the Nera and the Tiber, and includes "all liPontiprincipali, which facilitate sopradiquesti the transit."
