Important Murano glass suspension lamp, body composed of three tiers, in the first one a large cup in pulegoso lattimo glass with leaves in colorless and black glass, curved tubular elements in colorless glass; in the second tier a large cup light diffuser in pulegoso lattimo glass with vertical decorative elements with leaves in colorless and black glass and tubular elements in colorless glass; in the third tier a cup in colorless glass with tall vertical elements with leaves in colorless and black glass and tubular elements in colorless glass. One element missing from the top. In 1925 Carlo Scarpa, while still a student, began to collaborate with the famous M.V.M Cappellini glassworks directed by Vittorio Zecchin. From his director and from the current production, the young Scarpa embarked on an autonomous path that revolutionized the stylistic and material dogmas from the very beginning. The new production of the young architect on the one hand remained tangent to the models of Zecchin, on the other exalted the vertical lines and the search for a geometry in the forms that could give "conclusion" to the product; all this took place from 1925 to 1932, years in which the Cappellin glassworks projected itself to modernity and international fame. Witnesses to this period are a series of sketches and drawings preserved in the archives of the Carlo Scarpa foundation and in the Wolfson collection, which tell us of a beginning of harmony, beauty and a production that is very rare on today's market. The chandelier under study belongs to this precious production. In fact, if we compare the drawings of some of the architect's prototypes, we immediately notice some of the elements that distinguished his production: there are no more traces of reminiscences of the past, every link with the traditional Venetian chandeliers is abolished in favor of lamps composed by assembling pure geometric shapes and limiting, when present, the ornamental elements to simple stylized motifs of plant inspiration. The formal rigor, the compositional balance, the essentiality of the decorations and the careful study of the chromatic combinations, which would be further emphasized by the technical and material quality achieved by the Murano furnace, became the new stylistic characteristic of the manufacture, introducing a new idea of modernity dictated by a design vision that was no longer pictorial, but architectural. In some studies, Scarpa proposes the juxtaposition of two or more primary colors, which go to highlight the different parts that constitute the object, probably to be made in glass paste or with the technique of "incamiciato", the use of elements in pulegoso glass.
