APHRODITE ANADIOMENE DATE: II-I sec. a. C. MATERIAL AND TECHNIQUE: pinkish figulina clay, chamois engobe, molded with retouches to stick, hollow interior, rear vent hole The goddess is depicted just out of the water, naked, in a standing position, the bust slightly bent to the left and the head turned to the right with his gaze upward, the left leg is backward while the right is advanced and slightly bent, wearing a diadem on his hair and wearing armillas on his arms and ankles. The arms are bent at the elbows and brought up to arrange the long hair on his shoulders. To her right is a darting dolphin with its head down and tail resting on the thigh of the goddess; to her left is a pillar on which the goddess' robes lie. Aphrodite anadiomene, that is rising from the sea, was a famous painting by Apelles, made for Alexander the Great; Caesar had it detached and placed it in the temple of Venus Genetrix in Rome and in this way it had an enormous diffusion in the Roman way.
