MALE IDOL Sudarabic Peninsula, 2nd century BC - 1st century AD Alabaster H. 20 cm Provenance Former French private collection, 1950s Former Seward Kennedy collection, acquired before 1960 European private collection, acquired in 2017 The idol carved in the round depicts a male figure with stylized features, standing with his legs spread, arms at his sides, and hands on his pelvis. The pure geometric forms of the idol are characterized by an imposing head, the nose very much in relief compared to the eyes and the rest of the face. The hands are marked by fine incisions. The top of the skull shows an inscription in Sabatean . A South Arabian alabaster stone idol figure. An interesting primitive style carved alabaster figure with arms held in front with Sabaean script on the head. Ca. 2nd century B.C. - 1st century A.D.
