BUST OF A QUEEN Egypt, Ptolemaic period, 332-30 B.C. Wood with traces of gilding Bronze eyebrows and eyebrows, glass paste inlays H. 38 cm Provenance Former French collection, 1960-1970s Then by descent since then French private collection This bust was probably part of a large statue. Headdressed with a long tripartite wig, the upper part of which preserves hortizontal striations and the presence of a hole for the attachment of an uraeus (probably in gilded bronze). At the top of the skull, there is a hole for a crown. The face is characterized by a rounded oval, the eyes are very wide and ringed with bronze, while the bottom of the eye is made of white and black glass paste. The nose is long, the mouth small and fleshy. Presence of mortises at the level of the shoulders for the fixing of tenons to the arms that had to be attached. The face and the neck are still partially gilded. All these technical and stylistic elements allow us to identify this bust as that of a queen. A ptolemaic large gilt wooden bust of a queen.
