The painter also executed the first seven copperplate etchings and Henry de Montherlant wrote the preface, but the wars in Spain and elsewhere put an end to the project. In 1956 Gustavo Gili Jr. called him back to Picasso. In the spring of 1957, in Cannes, a few days after the Easter bullfight he had attended in Arles, Picasso drew with a brush, directly on the copper, this shorthand of light and shadow of a bullfight ... The 26 aquatints accompany the text of the famous bullfighter Pepe Illo, which was, in 1796, the first manual for bullfighters and "aficionados". He died in 1801 in the bullring of Madrid. The copy is complete with the 4-page booklet presenting the 26 aquatints and the 8-page subscription booklet of the Editions "La Cometa". Slight foxing at the beginning of the book. Wear to the wrapping. Ref : Cramer n° 100
