Françoise SAGAN (1935 - 2004) "Phèdre takes on service in the P.T.T" Oil on canvas and collage signed in bottom on the right 37 x 45 cm Extremely rare testimony of the talent of painter of Françoise Sagan illustrating her friendship with Marie Bell. "Show: The violins sometimes... Paris (France) : Théâtre du Gymnase - 09-12-1961 Directed by Jérôme Kilty ; dramatic comedy in 2 acts and 5 tableaux by Françoise Sagan ; costumes by Guy Laroche ; with Marie Bell (Charlotte), Roger Dutoit (Antoine), Pierre Vaneck (Léopold),... At the beginning of 1961, during an unexpected meeting at her hairdresser's, Françoise Sagan met Marie Bell, a sumptuous tragedian, honorary member of the Comédie-Française and current director of the Théâtre du Gymnase. The two women hit it off and Marie Bell proposed to Françoise to write a play for her. A month later the manuscript of: The Violins sometimes ... were completed. Françoise attended all the rehearsals which lasted three months. She took notes without daring to upset the English director Jerome Kilty, himself very impressed by the imposing presence of his main interpreter (Marie Bell). Politicians, actors, writers, people of the world, the whole Paris attended the first performance: Edgar Faure, René Meyer, Michel Simon, Mélina Mercouri accompanied by Jules Dassin, Anthony Perkins, Marie-Laure de Noailles, Guy de Rothschild, Marie-Louise Bousquet, Joseph Kessel, René Clair ... They were all there. One could not speak of enthusiasm ... During the intermission, they pretended to wait for the end of the play to declare themselves .
