The SM (like the Maserati S project) is a large 2+2 coupe; the rear seats are more measured but still usable by two adults. While the boot has a tailgate, the rear seats are fixed. At the front, the dashboard, with its beautifully clean and futuristic design and ovoid dials and steering wheel, was also used in the Maserati Merak.
The SM's very special style was directly inspired by the wind. It is in this sense that Robert Opron (a stylist later hired by the Régie Renault, who would later design the Fuego, among others) gave life to shapes that were both soft and lively, inspiring speed and power.
