Description

SEAL RING Egyptian-Phoenician art, Saite period, 664-525 B.C. Gold and green jasper; Diam. 27 mm Provenance Former English private collection Private collection, acquired on the English art market in 2013 The setting consists of a solid gold ring of rounded shape. Intertwined with gold wire around the shoulders, ending in lotus flowers. The rotating bezel consists of a gold frame decorated with braided wire and set with a large seal, engraved on one side with a hieroglyphic inscription. The reading is difficult, because it is a cryptic writing by transmutation, where the order of signs is mixed and subject to several interpretations. One of them that we will retain could be perceived as a maxim wishing sweet life to the one who wears it. Very good quality and conservation of the set. An egypto-pheonician gold swivel ring with a green jasper seal. With large rounded massive gold hoop, the shoulder with gold platted intertwined wire, the final in lotus flower-shape. The central rectangular gold box, the edge with a gold braid is set with a large blue-green jasper seal with hieroglyphic inscription on one side- the meaning is encrypted by transmutation, yet we can understand an apotropaic maxim that wish sweet life to whoever wears (this ring). Saite period, ca. 6th century B.C.
