Joseph GALLIÉNI (1849-1916) was a French military and colonial administrator. He took an active part in the expansion and consolidation of the Empire, notably in Africa and Madagascar. Governor of Paris in 1914, he was the initiator of the famous Taxis de la Marne, and was posthumously made Marshal of France in 1921.
