GUIRAND de SCEVOLA (1871-1950) Portrait of Colonel Alfred Fetter (1860-1929) at the mobilization of 1914 then chief of the 6th regiment of foot artillery and commander of the artillery of the place of Toul, oil on canvas SBG, dated December 1914, 81 X 64,5 cm, beautiful carved and gilded wooden frame. BE (Restorations) Lucien-Victor Guirand de Scévola (1871-1950), is a French painter, draughtsman and illustrator, painter of flowers, still lifes, scenes of alcoves and landscapes, Guirand de Scévola also leads a brilliant career as a portraitist, the artist also realizes worldly scenes. He is considered one of the inventors of military camouflage. In the fall of 1914, on the front with Eugène Corbin and the decorator Louis Guignot, he had the idea of covering artillery pieces with painted canvases that would blend into the landscape to avoid being spotted by the enemy. In 1915 he created the camouflage sections approved by General Joffre.
