A PYU AGATE ‘TIGER’ TALISMAN Burma/ Myanmar, Pyu city states (200-1000 CE). Translucent agate stone of an intense reddish-orange hue with natural, white, and milky white inclusions. Hand carved in the form of a crouching tiger. Central drilling showing ancient toolmarks and allowing for suspension as a pendant. Condition: Good condition with minor traces of age and some flaws to the surface. One natural, vertical age crack. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
