A LARGE WOOD HEAD OF BUDDHA Cambodia, Oudongk, Post Angkor period (1618-1863). Wearing a headdress and ushnisha carved with floral décor, the serene face with heavy-lidded almond-shaped eyes under thin eyebrows, a thin nose, moustache, subtle beard, and full lips, flanked by long ears with pendulum earrings. With gold lacquer highlights at the facial features and parts of the headdress and ushnisha. Condition: With wear, age cracks and losses - a larger loss to the ushnisha running through the inside. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
