184! SEMI CIRCULAR HARDSTONE SEALS Probably Sasanian, ancient Persia /Iran, c. 3rd-6th century or later. The lot comprising 184 stamp seals of different materials such as agate, banded agate, other hardstones, glass, and metal. All engraved with characters, mythological beasts, symbols, or figural scenes, the impressions are still very crisp! Almost all the pieces have a drilling as typical were worn on a necklace or around the wrist. Condition: Good condition commensurate with age. Provenance: Dr. Ernst Eichler, Vienna, Austria. Thence by descent in the same family. Ernst Eichler (1932-2018) was a judge and poet, writing under the pseudonym of Ernst David. His works have been published worldwide and translated into many languages, including Japanese. Beginning in the late 1960s, he built an important collection of writing instruments, seals and other antique desktop objects, among them a small number of Chinese and Tibetan seals.
