A RED SANDSTONE BUST OF A FEMALE DEITY
India, Rajasthan, in the style of the 10th century, but dating to the 18th or 19th century. Well sculpted, looking straight, the face with arched eyebrows and a slender nose, the hair arranged behind an ornamental headdress, decorated with a dangling necklace, the chest bare and pronounced, framed by an aureole. An old label on the reverse.
Condition: Very good condition, commensurate with age. Extensive wear, losses, minor signs of weathering and erosion, and surface scratches.
Provenance: Hungarian private collection, according to the current owner acquired from a French private collection 1990.
