A BLUE AND YELLOW PORCELAIN ‘DRAGON’ VASE
China, late 19th to first half of the 20th century. Of baluster shape surmounted by a slender neck with slightly everted rim and two dragon-form handles glazed lustrously in rich green. The body painted in cobalt blue tones and depicting a pair of four-clawed ferocious dragons revealing their menacing teeth, swirling amongst the flames, and grasping for the flaming pearl, all reserved against a lemon-yellow ground. The underside with an apocryphal six-character Kangxi reign mark within a double circle.
Condition: Excellent condition with only very little wear.
Provenance: Holzapfel collection, Geneva, Switzerland. This lot was acquired by a second-generation member of the Holzapfel family and has remained in the family ever since.
