A SONG STYLE WHITE CIZHOU VASE

A SONG STYLE WHITE CIZHOU VASE China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or earlier. The finely potted body of oval form, the shoulders rising to a slender elongated neck surmounted by a flaring cupped mouth and supported on a slightly splayed foot, the exterior applied with a white slip, skillfully carved through the white slip to the buff-colored body with a broad frieze enclosing blossoming peonies issuing from curling leafy scrolls, between two bands of lappets around the foot and neck, all beneath a translucent milky glaze. Condition: Excellent condition with minor firing flaws. Provenance: British private collection.
