A LACQUERED IVORY OKIMONO OF DAIKOKU AND KARAKO

A LACQUERED IVORY OKIMONO OF DAIKOKU AND KARAKO Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) The lucky god Daikoku wearing a robe and a characteristic hat, holding a hammer with his right hand and his bag with the left, behind him a child clambers over it, enhanced with polychrome and lacquer details. Signed within a red-lacquered cartouche to the underside. HEIGHT 19 cm Condition: With minor wear to polychrome details, one larger restored crack. Provenance: French private collection. This item contains or is made from elephant ivory and is subject to CITES when exporting outside the EU. It is typically not possible to export such items outside of the EU, including to the UK.
