A LARGE AND HEAVY BRONZE TRIPOD CENSER

A LARGE AND HEAVY BRONZE TRIPOD CENSER China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). The massive compressed globular body supported on three feet and set with two handles. The body cast with six reserves enclosing high relief depictions of birds amid blooming branches, all against an intricate lotus scroll ground, the neck and rim with a continuous leaf pattern and key fret band respectively. On the underside, the section which hosts the apocryphal Ming dynasty reign mark has been cut out, but it is presented with the lot. Condition: Shows surface wear and scratches, casting flaws and some dents and nicks to edges. The interior with malachite patina. Provenance: German private collection.
