A BRONZE FIGURE OF A HEAVENLY KING

A BRONZE FIGURE OF A HEAVENLY KING China, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The heavy casted bronze figure depicts the Guardian of the West, the ‘Ruler of Everything’, one of the four Heavenly Kings. Depicted with frown eyebrows, wearing an armor with a beast-head decoration to the front and the shoulders, holding a lasso in his left hand, and enclosed by heavenly bands. With an old paper label to the inside. Condition: Fine condition with age-related wear, few remains of gilding to the body and red paint to the inside visible, a part of the heavenly band running around the neck is missing.
