A CHINESE BRONZE FIGURE OF A TAMED WATER BUFFALO

A CHINESE BRONZE FIGURE OF A TAMED WATER BUFFALO China, late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to early Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). The nicely cast bronze figure shows a reclining, tamed water buffalo, with the legs tucked underneath the body, the incised tail swept to one side, and the incised bridle attached to the head and back. The bronze figure functioning as a brush rest and a potential water dropper with a small round opening on the back and an aperture in the water buffalo’s mouth. Condition: Good condition with minor wear and tiny surface scratches. Some repairs mainly to underside. Provenance: French private collection. Weight: 222 g Dimensions: Length 10.2 cm
