A BRONZE ‘BUDDHIST LION’ JOSS STICK HOLDER
China, late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Heavily cast and patinated dark as a muscular Buddhist lion with a large bushy tail and curling mane, raising one paw. With an open mouth to insert joss sticks.
Condition: Very good condition with few surface scratches, nicks, and casting irregularities.
Provenance: Austrian private collection, according to the current owner acquired at Gallery Asboth, Vienna.
