A GOLD AND SILVER INLAID BRONZE CENSER OF WANG XIZHI RIDING A GOOSE

A GOLD AND SILVER INLAID BRONZE CENSER OF WANG XIZHI RIDING A GOOSE China, late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). The charming bronze censer depicting a large goose standing on its two webbed feet, with finely incised and silver inlaid fur, surmounted on a base, decorated with leaves and wavey patterns. The removable figure of the famous Chinese calligrapher Wang Xizhi, riding on the goose’s back, wearing an elaborated gold and silver inlaid robe, holding a scroll in his right hand. Condition: Very good condition with minor surface wear, scratches, and casting flaws. The (removable) baton in his right hand is a replacement. Provenance: German private collection.
