Signed and dated 1888 lower left. 92 x 72 cm (tears and lining) A student of Gros and Blondel at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Emile Signol was a prolific decorator of many churches. Later on, he became involved in religious and moral painting of a strict academic nature, as can be seen in his most famous work "The adulterous woman".
