Direct competitor of the Porsche 928, Jaguar XJS and
Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC, the BMW 635 CSI had a
nice and long career from 1978 to 1989. Presented in
Geneva in 1976, it immediately became the flagship of the Bavarian brand.
Designed by Paul Bracq, its drawing is recognizable
between thousand with its shark nose and the fold of
Hofmeister. With its resolutely aggressive lines and
sloping roof, the shark was ready to swallow any prey
on its favourite playground: the tarmac.
On the engine side, it was the mythical in-line
6-cylinder engine that animated it, with its elasticity
and unforgettable melody. It benefited from advanced
technology for its time, notably the standard ABS.
The car on offer is in beautiful condition and our test
drive found no faults. Its Alpine «touches» (rims and
gear knob) smell of the 80’s to our great pleasure. Apart
from that and the chrome wheel arches, it is in original
configuration. It is equipped with the short reverse
gearbox, original option. The quality and durability
of the materials, both the plastic furniture and the
upholstery, are to be noted. Furthermore, the ergonomics
of the controls still give lessons to many vehicles today
with a dashboard turned towards the driver, simple and
readable, and the door panels perfectly in line with the
layout.
To add to the pleasure, the two rear seats invite you to
share a wild ride.
