Description

KOTA (Gabon) Embolized helmet mask from the Ivindo basin. Characterized by eyes pierced in a rectangle hidden under protruding upper eyelids. This refined face is topped by a large sagittal crest, straight and vertical on the front and curved on the back, colored red and crossed with two drooping lateral braids. The face is coated with kaolin, and a tuft of feathers is attached to the top of the crest. The light wood, relatively light, shows traces of use. (Cracks and some missing pieces are visible at the base of the mask. J. de Vilmorin Collection Width : 64 cm
