Austria - Order of Merit of the Republic, set of grand crosses including : the jewel in gilt bronze and enamel ; the silver plate, the eagle in gilt bronze enamelled, cartouche of the Reitterer company on the back, title mark, fixation by toggle pin ; the scarf, in the original case. With the patent dated May 14, 1967. The jewel: 69 x 50 mm - The plate: 96 mm Austria, last third of the 20th century. Pierre Harmel (1911-2009), Belgian politician, member of the Social Christian party. Doctor of law and associate professor of tax law, professor at the University of Liege after the Second World War. He held various ministerial posts from 1950 onwards and was briefly Prime Minister in 1965-66. He is best known for his work as Foreign Minister in several government coalitions from 1966 to 1972. He was Minister of State in 1973, then President of the Senate. He was knighted in 1991 by King Baudoin, who conferred on him the hereditary title of Count.
