NAPOLEON III WRITING BOARD by TAHAN (19th century) Blackened wood, mother-of-pearl and brass inlays, orange leather desk pad Signed "TAHAN F(ournisseu)r du ROI Rue de la Paix 30 With a cubic glass inkwell Second half of the 19th century 21 x 34,5 x 31,5 cm (closed) Small missing and worn Son of a "tablettier (creator of these refined boxes and small luxury furniture), Jean-Pierre-Alexandre TAHAN (1813-1892) developed his father's business in Paris until he became a supplier to Emperor Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie. In 1849, he moved to rue de la paix and won a silver medal at the Universal Exhibition in London. He won a gold medal in Paris in 1867.
