Description

Carpentier Louis/Original cartoon illustrating a soldier running behind a cat with a full mouth...made for Tania from the Pepperland bookstore. India ink, colored pencils and marker around 1985. Quality piece. TBE. 26 X 17 cm Born in 1944 in Uccle, Louis-Michel Carpentier attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels for four years before being hired as a cartoonist at the Belvision studios where he worked on the feature films of Asterix, Tintin and Lucky Luke. When the recession hit this firm, he tried his luck from 1975 at Casterman by adapting the novels of the Countess of Segur into comics: a series of eleven successful volumes, which will stop in 1984.at the same time, he turned to Raoul Cauvin to create in 1980 his own series, "Les Toyottes", of which five volumes will be published from 1980 to 1982 at Casterman, before a final reappearance at Lombard in 1989. Carpentier and Cauvin collaborate on a few works published by Artiscope and look for a theme that will not go out of fashion: the conversations in bars and the singular fauna that haunt these taverns. The first two volumes of their "Year of Beer" were published in 1986 and 1987 by Les Archers, with translations in half a dozen dialects for the thirsty in the provinces. In 1989, they continue the adventures of their favorite tavern keeper with Dupuis editions, under the title "Du côté de chez Poje". Since then, they have visited this friendly bistro every year and brought back a new volume where caricatures of their favorite colleagues and friends sometimes slip in.
