Description

Piroton/Michel and Thierry. Original plate n°42 of the album "Le grand raid" published first in the newspaper of Spirou in 1962. Colorization included. India ink and graphite. Rare. TBE+. 53 X 39 cm Arthur Piroton (1931-1996), is a Belgian author of comics known for his series Jess Long. On the advice of Hergé, he followed the drawing courses by correspondence of the French school ABC. In 1956, his career as a cartoonist took a decisive turn when he was hired by the Dupuis publishing house. He started by illustrating articles, short stories and novels for the magazines Risque-Tout and Bonnes Soirées. In 1958, he started to draw Uncle Paul stories for the magazine Spirou; he provided 44 stories until 1978. From 1962 to 1968, he drew - still in Spirou - the adventures of Michel and Thierry, a young man and a teenager who were keen on model airplanes (construction and remote control of miniature planes); sometimes a glider or a balloon transported the heroes. They will live a dozen adventures. In 1969, still in Spirou, he created Jess Long, his most famous series, with Maurice Tillieux as scriptwriter. He drew it until 1995. From 1979 to 1981, on scenarios of Mittéï, he draws a short story and two forty-four plates of the series Les Casseurs de bois with Francis Carin as assistant.
