Description
Amulet - Pendant of a Caciques shaman figure with natural patina. Tairona (900-1600 A.D.), Magdalena, North Colombia, circa 1200 A.D. Tumbaga gold. Standing male figure with spherical eyes and narrow mouth, crown on head. Short torso with broad shoulders, arms thrust to hips, each hand holding an object consisting of opposing scrolls. Bands encircle shoulders, elbows, wrists and waist. The toes are shown and there are thin bands on the ankles. The headdress consists of a cap on which a pair of large-beaked birds (toucans?) are depicted in three dimensions. Their hooked beaks end in a swerve. Behind the birds appear paired stylized bird heads in profile with long beaks. The top of the headdress consists of two large wreaths, decorated inside. Three spirals with one pearl each in the center, complemented with two more spirals in the middle.
