Axe-God Pendant, Costa Rica, Guanacaste/Nicoya, Period IV, c. 1-500 A.D. Elongated anthropomorphic axe-god pendant in the shape of a highly stylized animal deity made of black, white veined jadeite, rectangular blade with rounded corners, above the narrow neck four transversal notches, the second uppermost stylizing the mouth, trapezoid nose, the eye lines below two ears. Height 11 cm, white base. Provenance: Collection August Maurer, before 1986; Auction Vogler, 2015, Private collection Germany.
