Seizo SUGAWARA (1884-1937)

Mask of a woman with a turban - 1928 Ebony and carved varnished wood enhanced with lacquer and silver leaf (a few holes caused by wood-eating insects). Signed, dedicated "To my beloved friend Jean" and dated 1928. Height : 47 cm - Width : 95 cm - Depth : 22 cm Provenance : commissioned by Jean Henri-Labourdette in 1928. Still in the family. Sale Beaussant-Lefèvre, Paris, December 3, 2003, private collection. History: Jean Henri-Labourdette was an important Parisian coachbuilder, he and his wife had commissioned Jean Dunand to make their lacquered salon at the end of the 1920's.
