Description
Circular polychrome enamel plate with gold highlights and enamel on paillon representing Christ blessing the Virgin after an engraving by Martin Schongauer (1445- 1491) (fig) accompanied by three angels in the background, salmon-coloured counter-enamel. Inscribed four times on the border REGINA COELI LAETARE (Regina caeli laetare, Queen of Heaven). Limoges, first third of the 16th century. On a red velvet background in a moulded wood and tortoiseshell frame. Diameter: 13 cm (small accidents on the border, missing and worn). Our enamel is close in execution to the Master of the triptych of Louis XII.
