MAINE-ET-LOIRE. WALSH de SERRANT family. Autograph letter signed by Antoine WALSH DE SERRANT, 1 page small in-4, Paris, March 30, 1807, Followed by an autograph subscription signed by Louise Comtesse de WALSH DE SERRANT: Both recommend to an Ambassador, the Canon M. Le Noir (former Grand Vicar of Angers), and M. de Preaux ("young man of 22 years old, very rich owner and of one of the best families of my department") who are travelling together. The Countess specifies that she has asked Mr. Le Noir to send her some merinos (sheep from Spain), "you would be very kind to facilitate the means. I have made a large establishment in my lands", and she will be very happy to acquire some of the best breed. Louise de RIGAUD DE VAUDREUIL, Countess WALSH de SERRANT [1770-1831]. Her great grandfather Philippe de Rigaud was Governor of New France (Canada) in 1703. Her father was Governor of Saint Domingue. Exiled during the Revolution to London, she married Antoine WALSH DE SERRANT [1744-1817], Lieutenant-General of the King's Armies. In 1804, she was appointed Dame du Palais to the Empress Josephine. Appreciated by the Emperor Napoleon, she was his reader. In August 1808, Napoleon honored Louise with a visit to the Château de Serrant (Maine-et-Loire).
