INDRE-ET-LOIRE. 1767. ABBEY OF BEAULIEU LÈS LOCHES. Autograph letter signed "l'Abbé de CHAZAL, Abbé Comandataire de l'Abbaye de Beaulieu près Loches", at Beaulieu sous Loches on July 6, 1767. 2pp in-8°. "Sir, On my arrival in my abbey of Beaulieu près Loches in Touraine, the municipal officials of this city informed me that Mr. de Vinay my predecessor had implored your kindnesses for the construction of an arch to be made out of stone instead of the wooden bridge which is completely in ruin and therefore we gave orders to draw up an estimate which was made by the engineer of the province. I take the liberty Sir to beg you to give your last orders for the construction of this arch which is not an object for the state but which could not be supported by my inhabitants who are overburdened with taxes and in particular with a free gift of one thousand livres per annum for which they are much in arrears given their extreme misery. This bridge is all the more urgent that one cannot pass there without danger and that it is used as communication with two cities, Loches and Beaulieu; This is why this repair is very important to the public good..."
