*Saad YAGAN (Syrie, 1950)

A woman and a butterly, 2017 Acrylic on canvas 80 x 60 cm Signed lower left "Yagan '17", signed, dated and located "Beirut 2017" on the back. Provenance: Private collection, Beirut (aqcuis directly from the artist). Saad Yagan graduated from the Aleppo Center for Visual Arts in 1964. He was among the first students to be admitted to the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus alongside fellow artists such as Louay Kayyali, Fateh Moudarres and other members of the first generation of modern artists in Syria. Yagan exhibited with Kayyali and Wahid Magharbe in "Three Artists from Aleppo" at Dar El Fann Gallery and El Adab (Art and Literature House) in Beirut (1972). In 1981, he was the only Arab artist, along with nine other international artists, invited by the US government to participate in a special program to learn about modern American art. Internationally recognized, his paintings travel to major exhibitions beyond regional borders. This lot is presented as a temporary import.
