Born in Syria, Muhammad Imad Mahmouk studied calligraphy at the Suleymaniye Library in Istanbul from which he graduated in 1990. Back in Aleppo, he has his personal workshop at the Al-Sultaniaa mosque. When in 2006, Aleppo was declared a cultural city of Islam, he was entrusted with the design of the stamp published for the occasion.
Muhammad Imad Mahmouk has also worked in Saudi Arabia for the library of King Abdul'Aziz, calligraphed a Koran for King Abdullah and designed the Saudi riyal. Currently, he resides in Istanbul where he continues his work as a calligrapher.
