SAROUK carpet (Persia), late 19th century Dimensions : 210 x 135cm Technical characteristics : Wool velvet on a cotton foundation. A curious decoration composes this Sarouk carpet, indeed, of six vases located at each end, is extracted an explosion of multicoloured vegetable sprays with volutes, posed on a marine field. While serving as a shelter for many birds, they give the impression of meeting in the centre, where a flowery rosette stands out. Four small writings "Abjad" mark out the field. The frame is composed of a main chestnut border, with a series of blossoming corollas, flanked by two small ivory counter-borders with garlands of flowers. Beautiful graphics.
