Tâs - Bassin qajar

Iran, circa 1860-1880 A very finely chased copper vessel decorated with multiple registers covering the entire sides as well as the top of the basin and the lip. The body is mainly covered with circular and oval medallions with characters and animals: lion, khorshid, elephant, snake, divs, rider, sufi, gymnast, musician etc. On a background of branches of flowers animated with birds "gul wa bulbul". Around this frieze, two epigraphic bands in nastha'liq, then multiple registers of arabesques, spirals and fleurons. Very fine quality. H. 12.5cm; D: 24cm A Qajar chiselled copper basin, Iran, circa 1860-1880 Related work : Of very fine quality, this basin is to be compared with a tobacco tin in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (inv. no. 512-1874), reproduced in "The Empire of Roses, Masterpieces of Nineteenth-Century Persian Art", 2018, fig. 46, p. 49. On this tobacco box of Dutch origin and imported to Iran, we find the same quality of engraving and the same representation of Fath 'Ali Shah Qajar.
