PAIR OF QUEEN-BACK ARMCHAIRS, STAMPED I.AVISSE FOR JEAN AVISSE (1723-1796), LOUIS XV PERIOD in molded and carved natural wood, decorated with upright flowers, flowering branches, scrolls and foliage, armrests with cuffs, curved legs. A pair of cabriolet armchairs stamped "I Avisse" for Jean Avisse, Louis XV period, 18th century 100 x 71 x 65 CM - 39,4 x 28 x 25,6 IN Jean Avisse (1723-1796), received his master carpenter's diploma on November 10, 1745, and established his workshop in 1743 at 124 rue de Cléry. He initially carried out commissions for Parisian merchant-merchants, before devoting himself exclusively to a private clientele belonging notably to the French aristocracy. During his career, Avisse collaborated with the most renowned sculptors of his time, such as François Baillard, Claude Vinache, Pierre Rousseau and Nicolas Heurtaut, creating richly sculpted chairs. His customers included such eminent figures as the Marquise de Chabannes, the Comtesse de Fontenay and the Chevalier de Lamotte.
