Guido Reni (1575-1642) - Iron eating ostrich with putti / Description: Two putto, one with burning torch suggesting the other to point his arrow to an ostrich with a nail in his beak. Pliny the Elder wrote on the ostrich's mythical ability to eat iron and glass, which earned the bird a reputation as an iron-eater, and symbolized strength through resistance and hardship. Above them the stellar constellation of the big bear. Monogram GR of Reni by old handwriting in sepia ink (at the foot of the ostrich). On the backside some collection stamps, included that of the 'Kungliga Museum' = the Royal Museum of Stockholm (Lugt.1638). A print attributed to Guido Renior or perhaps an artist from his circle (Hieronymus Searsello) / Dimensions: 20,70 x 28,10 cm Good impression on watermarked laid paper cropped outside the image borderline.
