Master of Haarlem (1483-1486 fl.) - Adam and Eve in paradise / Description: Woodcut already used in the (1488) edition of Tboeck vanden leven Ons Heeren Jhesu Christi - Ludolphus de Saxonia - Gheraert de Leeu, 1488. It was made by the first woodcutter who participated at this work. Subject: The garden of Eden. Shown as a walled garden with Adam and Eva guided into the garden by Jesus Christ who leads them to the tree of knowledge of good and evil, with four rivers streaming out of the basin. Wonderful incunabula printed text with hand drawn red rubrifications. The study of the publications is complex. This one is from a still 15th century's publication (Very probably 1488 or 1495). Exact match of this woodcut in the 1488 edition (Google e-book online) without the designation of the capital and page number at the top of the sheet. / Dimensions: 18,20 x 12,70 cm Good clear impression of the woodcut. The sheet is in good condition for its age with some damp staining at the corners. / Literature: See Rijksmuseum, inventory numberRP-P-OB-2006 for a later variant for the 1503 edition.
