Description

Ceroferous angel in terracotta, polychrome enamelled and gilded. One knee on the ground, depicted in left profile, he carries a candelabra with both hands; beautiful youthful face framed by half-length hair falling down the back; he is dressed in a belted tunic with a collar with flaps, the sleeves held in place by an armband. Florence, attributed to Giovanni della Robbia (1469-1529), circa 1500/1520 Height: 73 cm - Width: 55 cm - Depth: 32 cm (left wing redone, right wing missing, small chips) This angel would have belonged to a large glazed terracotta altarpiece such as can be seen in the Bargello Museum in Florence (inv. 25 R, fig.) A thermoluminescence test was carried out by the Arcadia laboratory on 23/6/2021 confirming the dating.
